Be cunning, play clever, and pickup craps the proper way!

Dice and dice games date back to the Crusades, but modern craps is only about a century old. Current craps formed from the 12th Century Anglo game called Hazard. No one knows for certain the beginnings of the game, however Hazard is believed to have been discovered by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, in the twelfth century. It’s supposed that Sir William’s paladins wagered on Hazard amid a blockade on the citadel Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was derived from the citadel’s name.

Early French colonists imported the game Hazard to Canada. In the 1700s, when driven away by the British, the French headed down south and settled in southern Louisiana where they a while later became Cajuns. When they departed Acadia, they took their preferred game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns broke down the game and made it fair mathematically. It is said that the Cajuns adjusted the title to craps, which is gotten from the term for the non-winning throw of snake-eyes in the game of Hazard, referred to as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game migrated to the Mississippi barges and all over the nation. A good many think the dice maker John H. Winn as the founder of current craps. In 1907, Winn created the modern craps setup. He added the Don’t Pass line so gamblers could bet on the dice to lose. Afterwords, he designed the boxes for Place bets and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
