Be clever, play cunning, and discover how to play craps the correct way!

Games that use dice and the dice themselves date back to the Crusades, but modern craps is only about a century old. Modern craps come about from the ancient Anglo game called Hazard. Nobody knows for certain the beginnings of the game, however Hazard is believed to have been made up by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, sometime in the 12th century. It is supposed that Sir William’s soldiers bet on Hazard through a blockade on the castle Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was gotten from the citadel’s name.

Early French colonizers imported the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 18th century, when expelled by the British, the French moved south and found sanctuary in the south of Louisiana where they a while later became Cajuns. When they fled Acadia, they took their preferred game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns simplified the game and made it more mathematically fair. It’s said that the Cajuns changed the name to craps, which is derived from the name of the bad luck throw of two in the game of Hazard, recognized as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game moved to the Mississippi riverboats and all over the nation. Many acknowledge the dice builder John H. Winn as the creator of current craps. In the early 1900s, Winn created the current craps layout. He added the Do not Pass line so gamblers can wager on the dice to not win. Afterwords, he designed the spots for Place bets and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
