Be clever, play smart, and become versed in craps the correct way!

Games that use dice and the dice themselves date all the way back to the Crusades, but current craps is only about a century old. Current craps developed from the 12th Century English game referred to as Hazard. Nobody knows for certain the ancestry of the game, however Hazard is said to have been created by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, around the twelfth century. It’s theorized that Sir William’s soldiers gambled on Hazard amid a blockade on the fortress Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was derived from the castle’s name.

Early French settlers imported the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 1700s, when exiled by the British, the French headed south and discovered safety in the south of Louisiana where they at a later time became Cajuns. When they fled Acadia, they took their favored game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns simplified the game and made it fair mathematically. It’s said that the Cajuns changed the title to craps, which is gotten from the name of the bad luck throw of 2 in the game of Hazard, referred to as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game migrated to the Mississippi riverboats and across the nation. A great many acknowledge the dice builder John H. Winn as the founder of current craps. In 1907, Winn developed the current craps layout. He put in place the Don’t Pass line so gamblers could wager on the dice to lose. Later, he designed the spaces for Place wagers and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
