Be clever, play brilliant, and master craps the right way!

Dice and dice games goes back to the Crusades, but current craps is only about a century old. Current craps come about from the old English game called Hazard. Nobody knows for certain the ancestry of the game, but Hazard is said to have been made up by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, in the 12th century. It’s supposed that Sir William’s horsemen played Hazard during a siege on the citadel Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was gotten from the citadel’s name.

Early French colonizers imported the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 1700s, when displaced by the English, the French relocated south and found sanctuary in the south of Louisiana where they at a later time became known as Cajuns. When they were driven out of Acadia, they brought their preferred game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns simplified the game and made it more mathematically fair. It is said that the Cajuns adjusted the title to craps, which is acquired from the term for the losing throw of snake-eyes in the game of Hazard, known as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game moved to the Mississippi river boats and all over the country. A great many consider the dice maker John H. Winn as the founder of current craps. In 1907, Winn designed the current craps layout. He added the Don’t Pass line so players can bet on the dice to lose. At another time, he developed the spots for Place bets and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
