Be clever, play smart, and master craps the right way!
Games that use dice and the dice themselves goes all the way back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but current craps is approximately one hundred years old. Current craps formed from the ancient Anglo game referred to as Hazard. Nobody absolutely knows the origin of the game, however Hazard is believed to have been created by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, around the twelfth century. It’s believed that Sir William’s knights bet on Hazard during a siege on the fortification Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was gotten from the fortification’s name.
Early French settlers imported the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 18th century, when driven away by the English, the French moved down south and discovered sanctuary in the south of Louisiana where they a while later became known as Cajuns. When they departed Acadia, they took their favorite game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns streamlined the game and made it fair mathematically. It’s said that the Cajuns changed the name to craps, which is gotten from the term for the non-winning throw of 2 in the game of Hazard, known as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game moved to the Mississippi barges and throughout the country. A great many consider the dice builder John H. Winn as the father of modern craps. In the early 1900s, Winn assembled the modern craps setup. He added the Do not Pass line so gamblers can wager on the dice to lose. At another time, he established the spots for Place wagers and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
