Be brilliant, play clever, and become versed in craps the proper way!

Dice and dice games goes all the way back to the Crusades, but current craps is only about one hundred years old. Current craps evolved from the 12th Century Anglo game called Hazard. No one knows for sure the ancestry of the game, however Hazard is believed to have been created by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, in the twelfth century. It’s supposed that Sir William’s paladins enjoyed Hazard during a siege on the citadel Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was acquired from the fortress’s name.

Early French colonizers brought the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 1700s, when banished by the English, the French headed down south and settled in southern Louisiana where they after a while became Cajuns. When they fled Acadia, they brought their preferred game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns simplified the game and made it mathematically fair. It’s said that the Cajuns altered the title to craps, which was gotten from the name of the non-winning toss of snake-eyes in the game of Hazard, recognized as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game moved to the Mississippi river boats and all over the country. Many think the dice builder John H. Winn as the founder of current craps. In 1907, Winn designed the current craps setup. He appended the Don’t Pass line so players could bet on the dice to not win. Later, he created the spots for Place wagers and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
