Be cunning, play clever, and pickup craps the correct way!

Dice and dice games goes all the way back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but modern craps is only about a century old. Current craps come about from the old Anglo game referred to as Hazard. Nobody absolutely knows the birth of the game, but Hazard is believed to have been discovered by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, around the twelfth century. It’s believed that Sir William’s horsemen wagered on Hazard during a siege on the fortress Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was acquired from the citadel’s name.

Early French colonists imported the game Hazard to Nova Scotia. In the 18th century, when expelled by the English, the French moved south and settled in the south of Louisiana where they eventually became known as Cajuns. When they fled Acadia, they brought their best-loved game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns modernized the game and made it more mathematically fair. It is believed that the Cajuns adjusted the title to craps, which was gotten from the term for the bad luck throw of two in the game of Hazard, recognized as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game moved to the Mississippi river boats and throughout the country. Most think the dice builder John H. Winn as the creator of current craps. In the early 1900s, Winn designed the current craps layout. He put in place the Do not Pass line so gamblers could bet on the dice to not win. Afterwords, he established the boxes for Place wagers and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
