Be smart, play clever, and learn how to play craps the ideal way!
Dice and dice games date back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but current craps is approximately a century old. Current craps formed from the old Anglo game referred to as Hazard. No one knows for certain the beginnings of the game, however Hazard is believed to have been invented by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, sometime in the twelfth century. It’s presumed that Sir William’s soldiers enjoyed Hazard amid a siege on the castle Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was acquired from the citadel’s name.
Early French colonists imported the game Hazard to Nova Scotia. In the 18th century, when expelled by the English, the French headed south and settled in southern Louisiana where they after a while became Cajuns. When they were driven out of Acadia, they brought their best-loved game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns modernized the game and made it mathematically fair. It is believed that the Cajuns adjusted the title to craps, which was derived from the term for the losing throw of 2 in the game of Hazard, known as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game migrated to the Mississippi river boats and across the country. A few think the dice maker John H. Winn as the founder of modern craps. In the early 1900s, Winn assembled the modern craps setup. He added the Do not Pass line so gamblers could wager on the dice to lose. Afterwords, he designed the spots for Place bets and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
