Be clever, play cunning, and learn how to play craps the ideal way!

Dice and dice games goes back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but modern craps is just about a century old. Modern craps come about from the old English game referred to as Hazard. Nobody absolutely knows the beginnings of the game, but Hazard is believed to have been discovered by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, sometime in the twelfth century. It’s believed that Sir William’s paladins gambled on Hazard through a siege on the fortification Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was derived from the citadel’s name.

Early French settlers brought the game Hazard to Nova Scotia. In the 1700s, when displaced by the English, the French moved south and discovered refuge in southern Louisiana where they at a later time became Cajuns. When they departed Acadia, they brought their preferred game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns streamlined the game and made it more mathematically fair. It’s said that the Cajuns adjusted the title to craps, which was derived from the term for the losing toss of 2 in the game of Hazard, known as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game moved to the Mississippi scows and across the nation. A good many acknowledge the dice builder John H. Winn as the founder of current craps. In 1907, Winn built the modern craps setup. He added the Don’t Pass line so gamblers could bet on the dice to lose. Afterwords, he designed the spaces for Place bets and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
